Ibinabo Sets Up Benevolent Fund To Cater For Veterans Against The Unexpected Story by Osaremen Ehi James/

Worried by the embarrassment caused by the way Nollywood actors beg for money from members of the public anytime they have serious ailments, the President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima has set up a fund called ‘Benevolent Fund’.

Ibinabo disclosed recently that the fund will support actors who have worked in the entertainment industry and have fallen on hard times. The ex-beauty queen stated that she her position as the AGN boss has made her to be involved in very touching sad stories of some actors’ in need of funds to cater for themselves.

She expressed joy with the way some influential people in the society have embraced the idea. 

“Ironically, members of the general public look at the industry in terms of success, money and awards, but we know it’s a very precarious profession. You find yourself in dark periods, when you are ill and feeling very alone.

“It can sometimes be even worse if you are well known because you are still stopped on the streets, but you may be facing serious challenges that are not known to the people.

“What this profession has as its hearts is a bond between groups of people working together on a project. You can’t work in isolation and we need to support each other in bad times too. That’s why I believe in this project,” Ibinabo narrated.

She further added that, “the Benevolent Fund will be granted to revalidated members of the guild who require medical attention or are otherwise prevented from working by circumstances beyond their control.”

Eucharia Anunobi In Senegal For 7-Day Crusade Story by Osaremen Ehi James

Former Nollywood 'bad girl' actress turned Evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi is presently in Dakar, which is the capital city of Senegal, for a seven-day crusade holding in the city. 

Eucharia, who was ordained an Evangelist in early 2012 in a Church in Lagos, has since swung into action by winning souls for God. She arrived Senegal on Monday and is expected to leave by next week, we learnt. 

The crusade started on Monday, June 24 and will end on Sunday, June 30, 2013. It is holding at the Gate Family Church in Dakar, where she will minister everyday.

Fear may have gripped controversial actress, Tonto Charity Dikeh after the NDLEA reportedly threatened to investigate her posts online on Thursday and possibly throw her in jail for at least 5 years for allegedly encouraging or using the banned narcotic.

Apparently worried by the reactions the post and the NDLEA reported investigation created, the actress denied the post and claimed that a fan wrote the post and not her.

Tonto said, “A fan wrote the words with herbs on my birthday, and i replied: 'thank you teampoko'. Now, how does someone else's action become my crime?

"If I said those words ('Mi smoke gaja mi smoke wee while my haters smoke ma gossip'), I will stand by them but I didn't. Just because it is convenient for people to believe the lies still doesn't make it the truth.

"The whole thing is falsified by people who just love to have fun at other's expense. Let's put some thought to some of the things we write. Don't just cut and paste. If you cannot find me holding a wrap of marijuana, then you may want to slow down on your assumptions."

Sunday, July 14, 2013 will be the day organisers of the annual City People Awards would announce the winner of the Face of Nollywood category, which is keenly contested by the quartet of Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic and Funke Akindele-Oloyede.

The category is as important as others, but what makes the Face of Nollywood category to be one of the high points of the awards’ segment is the controversies among fans of the prolific actresses as to who is truly the face of Nollywood among the four nominees.

Another category of the awards is the Musician of The Year (Male) category which has Wizkid, Davido, Ice Prince, Iyanya and Flavour as nominees. The artistes are all qualified to win at the category based on the impact they have had in the music industry in Nigeria.

Another tough category is the Most Popular Song Of The Year. Ihe Neme (2Face Idibia), Limpopo (Kcee), Kukere (Inyanya), Shake Your Bum (Timaya), First of All (Olamide), Go Gaga Crazy (Chuddy K), Alingo (P-Square), Gobe (Davido) and Sho Le (Sean Tizzle) will slug it out in that section of the awards.
There is the Ghana section of the awards, which is also keenly contested.

The event holds at the Haven Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

I’ll marry my husband again and again – Mercy Johnson

 Mercy Johnson is a well known Nollywood star in Nigeria, nay Africa. After taking a break from the Liege lights to get married and have her baby, she’s now ready for a new project – the Mercy Johnson Foundation.

See excerpts of her recent interview with a national newspaper, Sun.

You were at OJB’s house to see him and donate money, now you are here to donate to the Boys Reform Home in Lagos. What’s the idea?

No idea, we are just promoting the ideals of Mercy Johnson Foundation.  The idea is to identify the needs, evaluate and help in our own little way. All fingers are not equal; those in position to help should do so without hesitation. You will be hearing a lot about Mercy Johnson Foundation from now on. We have put our house in order and now ready to help those we can. I strongly believe that as stars we should live beyond the euphoria of stardom and the moment.  We will not always be here, what happens if you look back and realise you could do a lot to make the world better when you had the spotlight and you didn’t? I want to live beyond the moment.

Why the reform homes in Lagos?

I know I’m not glamorous to a lot of people, but we must know that if we do charitable things for publicity alone, we defeat the purpose. We need to find ways to reform young boys and girls otherwise they will make life uncomfortable for the children of the privileged. At this point, I must commend the government of Lagos State for making efforts at reforming the kids. We are looking at what we can do with the state to help make the future of these children better.

Motherhood seems to have changed you…

Yes, motherhood changes women. You begin to see yourself as a co-creator. You begin to see yourself as a protector. Few days ago, I was feeding Purity and she started dragging the bottle with me with the hot water in it. She pushed the bottle, I had to quickly push her away from the water and let it pour on my arm instead. That’s the kind of protection I am talking about. I think it will also make you feel more responsible for other children as well. You begin to see them as children of some other mothers. You have a sense of responsibility to want to protect them as well.

How are you coping with your husband and the baby?

There’s nothing like coping, he’s making my job easier. He dots on her. He carries her, feeds and does everything for her such that she misses him when he’s not around.  You won’t believe she sleeps on his chest every night. He understands whatever adjustment I need to make when it comes to the baby. He’s a loving father?

What about being a loving husband?

Come on now, you know that Sam. He’s the best thing that happened to me. People usually say men are not reliable, in the case of my husband he’s a blessing. It’s obvious we are his priority.

So, your step of faith is paying off?

Yes. I am not saying its perfect, but this is close to perfection. If this is what it feels to be married, I want to marry my husband again and again.
